Biren Singh's resignation marks a new chapter in Manipur's political landscape. Faced with the recent communal violence in Manipur, administrative failures and mounting pressure from opposition parties, Biren Singh decided to step down from his post as Chief Minister. This resignation is not just a step down from the responsibilities of a leader, but also opens the door to new political possibilities in Manipur.

Firstly
No political resignation has been delayed this much in the recent past. The Chief Minister has been responsible for restoring law and order since the unrest began. Not only has he failed to impose state authority, his public behavior has further complicated the situation. This has led to increased polarization, and unnecessary loss of life and property.

বীরেন সিংয়ের পদত্যাগের ফলে মণিপুর সংকট নিরসনে একটি রাস্তা খুলে গিয়েছে। কিন্তু, বিলম্বের কারণেই কাজটি কঠিনতর হবে। এই মুহূর্তে রাজ্যের কুকি ও মেইতেই সম্প্রদায়ের মধ্যে সম্পূর্ণ বিচ্ছেদ ঘটে গেছে- দু'পক্ষই সশস্ত্র। মেইতেইরা কখনওই রাজ্যভাগ মানবে না, আর কুকিদের তরফে স্বশাসনের দাবি আরও জোরালো হবে। নয়াদিল্লির তরফে তাই নিপুণ দর-কষাকষি বাঞ্ছনীয়।
Secondly
Biren Singh's resignation has opened a way to resolve the Manipur crisis. But, the delay will make the task more difficult. At the moment, there is a complete split between the Kuki and Meitei communities in the state - both sides are armed. The Meitei will never accept the state's partition, and the Kuki's demand for autonomy will only grow stronger. Therefore, skillful bargaining is desirable on the part of New Delhi.

For this reason, it is necessary to disarm both sides. In Kuki and Meitei, goons attacked and looted the armoury of the Manipur security forces. Moreover, the Manipur police have been accused of acting in a biased manner throughout the conflict. Unless the stolen guns are recovered and the Manipur police is reformed, there will be no progress in the negotiations.

মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর পদত্যাগের পেছনে প্রতিবেশী মায়ানমারের পরিস্থিতিও দায়ী। বিগত মাসগুলিতে আরাকান সেনা রাখাইন প্রদেশ প্রায় দখল করে নেওয়ায় নয়াদিল্লি বুঝতে পেরেছে যে, সীমান্ত সুরক্ষিত রাখতে জুন্টার ওপর ভরসা করা এবং তার জোরে সন্ত্রাসবাদীদের (সঙ্গে তাদের হাতিয়ারও) মিজোরাম ও মণিপুরে ঢুকে পড়া ঠেকানো আর সুবিবেচনা হবে না। মণিপুরের পরিস্থিতি মেরামতের অযোগ্য হয়ে যাওয়ার আগেই তাই বীরেন সিংকে পদ ছাড়তে হল।
Fourth
The situation in neighboring Myanmar is also responsible for the Chief Minister's resignation. With the Arakan Army almost taking over Rakhine State in recent months, New Delhi has realized that relying on the junta to secure the border and prevent terrorists (along with their weapons) from entering Mizoram and Manipur by force is no longer a good idea. Biren Singh had to step down before the situation in Manipur became beyond repair.

According to political analysts, the current situation in Manipur is not only due to administrative failures, but also a result of deep-seated discontent among various communities and increasing support for separatism. The government led by Biren Singh has allegedly failed to address these problems. After his resignation, the new leadership will have the challenge of resolving these problems.

According to author and political expert Dr. Shankar Sharma, “For Manipur’s political stability, the new leadership will have to focus not only on administrative skills but also on gaining the trust of the people. Their main task will be to restore unity and build trust among the different communities.”

On the other hand, writer Sudip Roy believes, “Biren Singh’s resignation was necessary, but the new leadership that will come in now must pay special attention to the social problems of Manipur. It is necessary to focus on solving local level problems along with national politics.”

Finally, the more pressing question is whether a new chief minister will replace Biren Singh, or whether central rule will continue. That is not clear at this time. But the responsibilities of both, be they the governor of Manipur or the next chief minister, are clear. The deep-rooted distrust between the Kukis and the Meiteis will have to be addressed, and the security forces, civil society groups and political solidarity initiatives will have to be involved. Given the degree of polarization, it is clear that the task is not easy. However, Biren Singh's resignation has at least marked the beginning.
বীরেন সিংয়ের পরবর্তী সরকার গঠনের প্রক্রিয়ায় বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দলের সক্রিয় ভূমিকা থাকবে। নতুন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী কে হবেন এবং তিনি কতটা দক্ষতার সঙ্গে এই সংকট মোকাবিলা করতে পারবেন, তা নিয়ে মণিপুরের মানুষ ও রাজনৈতিক মহলে জল্পনা চলছে। তবে এক কথা স্পষ্ট—এই পদত্যাগ মণিপুরের ভবিষ্যতের রাজনৈতিক দিশা নির্ধারণে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করবে।
Various political parties will have an active role in the process of forming the next government under Biren Singh. There is speculation among the people and political circles of Manipur about who the new Chief Minister will be and how efficiently he will be able to deal with this crisis. But one thing is clear - this resignation will play an important role in determining the future political direction of Manipur.
